Frying Pan Flat is at the southern end of Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, on the Walk 3 loop of the park, just pass the Alum Cliffs. Within this section of the park are Oyster Pool, some boiling mud ponds and a Sulphur Cave. A side arm to the path's loop leads over a rise to a lookout over the green Lake Ngakoro where water enters the lake through a narrow gully and down a small waterfall.
