Oyster Pool at Wai-O-Tapu - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama of the Oyster Pool fumerole at Waiotapu. The pale blue pool fills a hollow in these flats. To the left of the pool steam is rising from some boiling mud. The majority of visitors do not make it this far into the park.

Oyster Pool is one of the features on Walk 3 loop through the southern end of Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in New Zealand. This quiet little blue pool lies in mud flats between Frying Pan Flat and some boiling mud flats next to a sulphur cave. Water rising up Oyster Pool drains into Frying Pan Flat and down a channel to Lake Ngakoro.
The broad walk continues past here and up to some Sulphur Mounds, looping back to join the Walk 2 path at Bridal Veil Falls. A side trail just past this point continues a short distance to a lookout over Lake Ngakoro where water enters the lake through a narrow gully and down a small waterfall.
