Panorama taken from the top of Rangikapiti Pa near Mangonui. This picture clearly shows the layout of Doubtless Bay, with Mangonui and Mangonui harbour to the east. The beach to the west is Taipa Beach, and beyond this stretches the rest of Doubtless Bay. The small town of Hihi is hidden behind the hill on the other side of the narrow straits to the north.

Rangikapiti Pa is an ancient Māori hill fort outside Mangonui in New Zealand. This is a popular walking spot and from the top there are stunning panoramic views over Doubtless Bay from which you can see much of Mangonui Harbour. To the west lies the long, curved, Coopers Beach and beyond this are Cable Bay and Taipa Beach.
Rangikapiti Pa is an important sitefor the Ngati Kahu Māori and is associated with their ancestor Moehuri who landed here in a Ruakaramea canoe. It is thought that he named the pa after his wife.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Rangikapiti is a short walk from the car park at the end of Rangikapiti Road, which comes of Highway 10 just west of Mangonui.
