Pukenui and Houhora Harbour - FURTHER INFORMATION
Pukenui and Houhora Harbour - Aupouri Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Pukenui and Houhora Harbour' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Northland.
The Houhora Harbour is a natural harbour on the east side of the Aupouri Peninsula in the norther reaches of Northland in New Zealand. The harbour is both long and narrow, sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean by a peninsula. The harbour entrance is at Houhora Heads and the along the western shore, from south to north, are the small settlements of Raio, Pukenui, Houhora, Te Raupo and Waihopo. The harbour was used by whalers.
Today, most people simply pass through these settlements on the way to Cape Reinga at the far north of the Aupouri Peninsula, but the settlements do have some hotel and motel accommodation for those wishing to stay.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Pukenui is on the western shore of Houhora Harbour, about 70km south of Cape Reinga and 60km north of Mangonui on Doubtless Bay.
