Rawene Ferry - FURTHER INFORMATION
Rawene Ferry - The Hokianga visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Rawene Ferry' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Northland.
Rawene is a small settlement on the southern shores of Hokianga Harbour, a large natural harbour on the west coast of Northland in New Zealand. The settlement grew up out of the timber industry, with a saw mill and shipyard processing kauri trees.
Today the timber industry has departed, leaving a peaceful settlement full of historic buildings whose shallow bay is rimed by mangroves and backed by rolling hills to the south. It is quite popular with visitors as the Hokianga Harbour Ferry departs from here to The Narrows near Kohukohu on the northern shore. Rawene has been slowly capitalizing out of this, providing several restaurants leading down to the ferry and numerous cafes. Marketing itself as a gateway to The Hokianga, Rawene now has several picturesque hotels and come craft stores.
