The Hokianga Harbour Ferry takes cars across Hokianga Harbour from Rawene to a landing site at The Narrows near Kohukohu. The Narrows is, as the name suggests, a narrow strait in the harbour. From here most of the traffic heads north on Kohukohu road.

The north side Honkianga Harbour Ferry landing is about 2km south of Kohukohu.
