Hokianga Harbour from Kohukohu - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama from the end of the jetty at Kohukohu looking out over sections of Hokianga Harbour. The little, wooden, blue hut has 'Kohukohu' painted on it welcoming visitors to the town. The picture was taken on a cloudy day, creating a moody atmosphere over the harbour surrounded by low lying, lush hills.

At Kohukohu the Hokianga Harbour splits into two rivers. The Mangamuka River feeds in from the northwest past Urungalo, Kahikatoa and Tutekehua ending up at Mangamunka Bridge and Highway 1. The Waihou River feeds in from the east past Mangungu, Horeke and Rangiahua.
This part of Northland in New Zealand is becoming increasingly popular with tourists wanting a more relaxed break away from the major tourist attractions. Nestled on the northern shores of Hokianga Harbour among lush hills, Kohukohu is within striking distance of the Aupouri Peninsula (for Cape Reinga) and Mangonui on Doubtless Bay.
