The Kauri Museum contains displays about the history of the Kauri Timber industry. Within the museum is a recreation of an old steam powered kauri timber mill. The timber industry was very important to the development of Northland region of New Zealand by European settlers. Many of the small villages in the region, like Kohukohu and Rawene owe their existence to kauri timber.
