North Head is the northern headland at the entrance to Hokianga Harbour in Northland region of New Zealand. The North Head is known in Maori as Niniwa, and the South Head, near to which Omapere settlement is built, is known Arai-te-Uru. The Maori believe that the 11 rivers that run into Hokianga Harbour are paths made by their children.
Omapere is close to Opnoni. Both of these are small fishing settlements with some Bad & Breakfast accommodation for those wishing to stay in and explore Hokianga Harbour. A popular resort is the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Hokianga. For those visiting, Omapere offers various natural attractions including the Footprints Waipoua Twilight Tour, Wairere Boulders at Horeke, massive Sand Dunes on North Head, Puketi Forest trains and Omahuta Forest Historical Attractions.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
