Waipu Caves are a glow worm caves near to in the Northland of New Zealand. The cave entrance is at the far end of a field down a narrow track. Glow worm caves are popular tourist attractions in New Zealand, and a lot of money can be made from them. It is not uncommon for people with such caves on their land to charge entrance fees. The Waipu caves were, in 2008, free. They were unguided caves with no marked paths or lit route, but inside the 3rd chamber are numerous gloworms.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Waipu Caves are about 15km northwest of down a long, windy, dirt track. From Waipu take Shoemaker road over Highway 1. After about 6km turn left onto Mountfield Rd and then left again onto Waipu Caves Road.
