Lake Union and Kenmore Planes - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama taken by the shores of Lake Union, next to the Kenmore Planes jetty. One of the Kenmore water planes has just landed and can be seen taxiing to the pontoon in this image. It is amazing to watch them come in to land over the water.

Lake Union is a large fresh water lake near the CBD of Seattle. The proximity of Lake Union to downtown Seattle, and the scenic views of the city you get from there, have made it a popular recreational spot, especially at the southern end where there are a collection of floating historic ships by Lake Union Park which is less than a mile away from the Seattle Center. Kenmore planes is also based here, offering scenic flights around Seattle as well as a regular passenger service to other locations around the Puget Sound and over to Vancouver Island in Canada.
At the northern end of Lake Union is Gas Works Park. This former gas works has been converted into a recreational space and some of the old works have been turned into features within the park, making it quite unusual. A canal connects Lake Union to the much larger Lake Washington to the east. Water from Lake Union drains west from the lake through the Fremont Cut canal to the Puget Sound through Salmon Bay.
Lake Union was formed by glaciation. As can be seen from the satellite view of the Google Map of Seattle, most of the edges of Lake Union are taken up with marinas and during the summer months the lake is full of boats and yachts enjoying the water. At times the Montlake Cut canal between Lake Union and Lake Washington can become very congested.
