Skiing in Les Diablerets

Les Diablerets is both the name of the ski resort and the mountain on which it is situated in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, in the easternmost area of the Canton of Vaud. It is one of the smaller resorts in Switzerland, but links through to both Villars and Leysin, which together form the Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises skiing area, and greatly opens up the skiing. The village of Les Diablerets is small, unspoiled and friendly. The ski data given above is for Les Diablerets only, but this can be a little misleading as the ski pass gives free access to Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises, the details of which are given below.

Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises ski area

The reason why Les Diablerets score fairly well for advanced skiers in spite of the lack of many advanced slopes is the access provided to a wider skiing area. The link through to Villars in 1997 greatly opened up the ski area.

The Alpes Vaudoises area as a whole has 220 km of piste and 114 runs to choose from, breaking down into 53 for beginners, 52 for intermediates and 12 for advanced skiers. For the cross country skier the whole area provides 132 km of trails.

The Alpes Vaudoises area has 74 lifts in total; 3 gondolas, 4 cable cars, 21 chair lifts and 46 drag lifts. There are 29 mountain restaurants scattered throughout the resort as a whole.

If this is not enough then for a small extra charge, it is possible to ski in Gstaad, 15 km away, and also the Lenk-Adelboden region. In fact, the a 'Glacier – Alpes Vaudoises' ski pass allows access to over 500 km of piste, including both the Gstaad and Chateau d'Oex areas.
