The back of this beach is lined with palm trees of Kapiolani Regional Park, which makes a pleasant change from the skyline of hotels that lines most other beaches in Waikiki. Also, being away from the front of the hotels, Kapiolani Beach tends to be a little quieter.

Kapiolani Beach lies just to the south of Waikiki proper, and forms the shoreline of Kapiolani Beach Park on the way to Diamond Head on Oahu island in Hawaii. To the south of Kapiolani beach is Queen's Surf Beach. Waikiki proper starts beyond the Kapahulu Groin to the north, which separates Kapiolani Beach from Kuiho Beach and Waikiki Beach. Further inland is Kapiolani Beach Park and beyond this, over Kalakaua Avenue, are Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Regional Park.

The nearest hotels to this end of Waikiki include the Renew, Park Shore Waikiki Hotle, Waikiki Beach Hotel, Waikiki Grand, Queen Kapiolani. At the other end of Kapiolani Beach Park, to the south, are New Otani Hotel, Diamond Head Hotel and "W" Honolulu Hotel.
