Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach at Hale'iwa is among one of the most popular surf beaches on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. 'Ali'i' is the Hawaiian for 'Royal' or 'Kingly' and this beach certainly lives up to it's name in surfing terms. The beach can be prone to strong currents, especially around the breakwater of Haleiwa Harbor entrance on Waialua Bay. Alii Beach Park has picnic areas, rest rooms, showers and phones with ample car parking.
During the summer months the waters here are quite calm and the best swimming is in the protected bay on the south side of the beach. The sandy beach has a shallow reef with sharp rocks and breakers can catch people out during low tide. Swimming is not recommended during the winter months.
Ali'i beach is near to the historic town of Hale'iwa, which is the surf capital of Oahu. Nearby, on the other side of Waialua Bay, is Haleiwa Beach Park.
