Laniakea Beach on North Shore - FURTHER INFORMATION
Laniakea Beach on North Shore - Oahu visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Laniakea Beach on North Shore' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Hawaii.
Laniakea Beach lies just to the east of Haliewa on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. This is a popular North Shore surfing beach, especially in the winter during quite large surf periods. The beach is exposed with no facilities. It is between Papailoa Beach and Kawailoa Beach next to Puu Nenue Point.
Laniakea Beach is also known as 'Turtle Beach' as green sea turtles (honu) often come up onto the sand to bask in the sun amidst the people resting on the beach. These turtles are endangered and should not be disturbed, but the fact that they come up onto the beach offers great opportunities for photography. The green turtles feed off the seaweed that grows around the rocks on the shoreline, especially at the northern end of Laniakea Beach. It is easy to watch them while snorkeling in the waters here. Again, swimmers should keep at a distance from the turtles and must not impede them as they come up for air. Those who get to close to the turtles may find out just how strong their beak is.
