Stadtpfarrkirche Graz - FURTHER INFORMATION
Stadtpfarrkirche Graz - Graz visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Stadtpfarrkirche Graz' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Styria.
The Stadtpfarrkirche was built in the Jewish Quarter in Graz in 1440. The Gothic church was given to the Dominicans who added a long Choir room. During the 18C the Baroque altars were replaced with Neo-Gothic furnishings, however the Baroque St. John Nepomuk Chapel was preserved. Stadtpfarrkirche was hit by a bomb in WWII which destroyed the stained glass windows. Replacement windows were designed by Albert Birkle, a Salzburg artist, focussing on the sufferings and resurrection of Jesus, notoriously contain figures of both Hitler and Mussolini. Another panorama shows the interior of Stadtpfarrkirche.
Stadtpfarrkirche stands near the eastern end of Herrengasse, close to Platz am Eisernen Tor and the Mariensäule. Further west along Herrengasse is the Landeszeughaus, or Graz Armoury, which contains the largest medieval collection of arms and armour on earth and is one of the top tourist attractions in Graz. Beside this are the Tourist Information Centre and Landhaus Courtyard.
