The Wienerwald - FURTHER INFORMATION
The Wienerwald - St. Pölten Land visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'The Wienerwald' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Niederoesterreich.
The Wienerwald (Vienna Woods) covers over 1,000 square kilometres of Niederösterreich to the east of Vienna in Austria. It is loosely described as the area bounded by the rivers of Triesting, Gölsen, Traisen and Danube. The woods form a dividing region between the Eastern Alps and the Carpathians. These woods are very popular with the Viennese who often use it for recreational purposes.
The highest point of the Wienerwald Schöpfl (893m), the location of the Leopold Figl observatory. Even though the area is protected, it is under continual pressure from urban development. It contains various parks, like Sandstein-Wienerwald is near Purkersdorf, and a few natural caves, like Dreidärrischenhöhle 'Three-Deaf-Men's-Cave'.
