This panorama shows the inside of the ZAMG offices in northern Vienna. ZAMG is the national meteorological and geophysical service of Austria. ZAMG was established by Imperial order by Emperor Franz Joseph on 23 of June 1851. The first director was Karl Kreil (1798 - 1862). Today, as a partially incorporated federal establishment, the Central Institute is a modern service provider, with regional offices for Salzburg and Upper Austria, Carinthia, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, and Styria. It's functions include:
- Gather, analyze and store meteorological and geophysical data
- Provide expert advisory and consultancy on meteorological and geographical issues
- Undertake investigations relating to enviroment protection and conservation
- Provide timely information, advice and warning in cases of crises and incidents as well as natural and environmental disasters
- Produce and maintain an accurate climatological and geophysical survey of Austria
- Undertake practice-oriented research in meteorology and geodynamics including related sciences
- Promote cooperation with other domestic and international meteorological and geophysical institutions as well as related sciences.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Take the Underground U 6 in direction "Floridsdorf" and leave the underground at station "Nußdorfer Straße". From there catch the tram Nr. 37 and leave the tram at station "Perntergasse" in front of our institute.
