A panorama taken from the highest point on Makapuu Point on Oahu. The image was taken late in the afternoon in spring 2008 and shows a low sun over the rest of Oahu to the east. From here it is possible to see along both the southern and Windward coasts of Oahu.

Makapu'u Point forms the easternmost part of Oahu and a designated in Hawaii State park. The point rises to 197m above sea level and is popular with visitors with dramatic panoramic views along both the southern and eastern coasts of Oahu. A 2.5mile track winds up the point to the Makapu'u Lighthouse near the top. In winter months the point is popular for whale and dolphin watching.

'Makapu'u' comes from the Hawaiian for 'Bulging Eye' and comes from the Hawaiian legend that Makapu'u was a supernatural being with 8 glowing eyes who took up residence on the point after arriving from Tahiti.

The view up the Windward Coast extends all the way to Mt. Olomana on the Mokapu Peninsula, and at the base of the point are Makapu'u Beach Park, popular for body boarding and diving, and Kaupō Beach Park. There is a Viewpoint overlooking Makapu'u Beach near the highway. The view along the southern edge extends past Sandy Beach Park to Hanauma Bay. Off shore are Manana Island (Rabbit Island) and Kaohikaipu Island (Turtle Island).

From Waikiki take Kalakaua Avenue past the Honolulu Zoo and Kapiolani Park, turning right onto Diamond Head Road. Then turn right onto the 78 Hwy East. Follow this past Hanauma Bay for about .
