Gärtnerplatz is an important road junction in the center of Munich. On one side is the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Gärtnerplatztheater) and here the Klenzestraße, Corneliusstraße and Reichenbachstraße meet.

Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is the building with 3 columns seen beyond the flowerbeds. Opening in 1865, it is the second most important opera house in Munich after the National Theatre. While it focuses mostly on opera, the theater has also staged operettas, musicals and ballet. With over 200 performances each season, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz is one of the most active theatres in Germany
