Wakiki (Waikīkī), in Honolulu on the south of Oahu, is the most visited area in all of Hawaii. In fact, Waikiki, with it's beaches and hotels, if often what first springs to mind when people think of Hawaii.
The Waikiki neighbourhood stretches from Ala Wai Boat Harbor in the west to Diamond Head (Lēʻahi) on the east. The Ala Wai Canal runs along the back and fronted by the Pacific Ocean, lined with various beaches. Waikiki was a retreat for Hawaiian royalty in the 1800s, and the trend has continued. Today Waikiki is the main tourist destination in Hawaii and the entire neighbourhood is so full of hotels and beach resorts that there is little room for anything else.
Beaches of Waikiki: Although almost the whole of Waikiki is lined with sand, this is broken up into distinct beach areas, at the center of which is Waikiki Beach. The other beaches and beach parks in Waikiki include Duke Kahanamoku Beach Park, Fort De Russy Beach Park and Gray's Beach west of Waikiki Beach and then Kuhio Beach, Kapiolani Beach, Queens Surf Beech and Kaimana Beach.east of Waikiki Beach. Behind the eastern beaches are Kapiolani Beach Park and Kapiolani Regional Park.
