Shrine of Remembrance Sanctuary - FURTHER INFORMATION
Shrine of Remembrance Sanctuary - Melbourne visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Shrine of Remembrance Sanctuary' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Victoria.
The Sanctuary is the main focal point of the The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne. Inside the Sanctuary is the Stone of Remembrance, a marble slab set into the floor forcing people to bow their heads as they read it. At either end of the Sanctuary hangs the Australian flag. Below the Sanctuary is the Crypt which houses a statue of a father and son.
The Shrine of Remembrance is the largest ANZAC war memorial in Australia. Initially built to commemorate the fallen from Victoria in WWI, the shrine soon became the prime memorial for all of Australia's war dead. Today the memorial is used for the annual ANZAC Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November) ceremonies.
