a street in Stockerau - FURTHER INFORMATION
a street in Stockerau - Klosterneuburg visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'a street in Stockerau' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Niederoesterreich.
Korneuburg is first mentioned in 1136 under the name of Nivenburg, in association with Klosterneuburg. It was formally separated from Klosterneuburg in 1298. A fortress was built here in 1450 and the city surrounded with walls. The city was an important station on the Danube and saw conflict during the Battle of Vienna, the Thirty Years' War, and the French Revolutionary Wars.
Korneuburg still has numerous historical buildings and makes a good day trip for visitors from Vienna. Among the principle attractions of the town are Catholic parish church of St. Aegis, a Neo-Gothic town hall with a late Gothic tower, the Rattenfänger wells and the Old Synagogue in Roßmühlgasse.
