Klosterneuburg lies north of Vienna in Niederösterreich, Austria. The city lies on the River Danube and is separated from Vienna by the Kahlenberg and the Leopoldsberg mountains. The history of Klosterneuburg dates back to Roman times when the Citium castle stood in the region. It is most famous for the Klosterneuburg Monastery (German: Stift Klosterneuburg), which was founded by Leopold III in 1114 and given to the Augustinian Canons in 1133. Stift Klosterneuburg is the oldest and most wealthy foundation of it's kind owning a lot of land around Vienna and in the Wienerwald.
