The base of the column in Heroes' Square (Hősök tere) is surrounded by equestrian statues of the seven conquering chiefs from the Magyar tribal who settled in the area around 890AD. A statue of Archangel Gabriel stands on top of the 36m column. On either side of the column are two curved colonnades with statues of important Hungarian leaders.
