Temple of Apollo - FURTHER INFORMATION
Temple of Apollo - Rhodes visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Temple of Apollo' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Dodecanese.
This panorama shows the remains of the Temple of Apollo in the Acropolis of Rhodes in Greece. The full name is the 'Temple of Pythian Apollo'. The temple stands on the southern part of the Acropolis hill, close to the Stadium. It was a was a poros peripteral temple, smaller than the nearby Temple of Athena and Zeus.
The hill on which the Acropolis stands is known as Monte Smith. The first Acropolis was built here in 408 BC when the Temple of Pythian Apollo dominated the site. The Temple was badly damaged by bombing and the installation of artillery here during WWII. Not much now remains standing except a few columns, but, being near the top of the hill on a flat terrace, it offers good views of the surrounding area.
