Vale Castle - FURTHER INFORMATION
Vale Castle - Guernsey visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Vale Castle' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Channel Islands.
A panorama showing the view from Vale Castle over St Stampson on Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands. Vale Castle is mentioned in the ballad 'La Descente des Saragousais', about the invasion of Owen of Wales in 1372.
Vale Castle was also known as the 'Chateau des Marais', but there are few written records that mention it. The castle was garrisoned in the French Wars of 1793 to 1815 and was used as a signal station until 1830. The castle was declared an historic monument in 1890. It was garrisoned during WWI and fortified by the Germans during their occupation of the Channel Islands during WWII.
Today Vale Castle is open to the public and entrance is free.
