Sherbrooke is the only major city in the Easter Townships if Quebec in Canada. The area was first settled in 1793 by American loyalists and originally named Hyatt's Mill after Gilbert Hyatt, a farmer from New York who built a flour mill here. It was renamed Sherbrooke in 1802 after Sir John Sherbrooke, a Governor General from England.
During the summer months Sherbrooke hosts a number of festivals including the Fete du Lac des Nations fireworks festival in July, and Traditions of the World Festival in August. The Sherbrooke Historical Interpretation Centre contains historical exhibits about the region and the Museum of Science and Nature explores the natural world. During the winter months, Sherbrooke provides easy access to skiing in Mont Orford ski resort.
