Trondheim - FURTHER INFORMATION
Trondheim - Trondheim visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Trondheim' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Trondelag.
Trondheim stands along the banks of the river Nidelva in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. People have occupied the area for thousands of years, as demonstrated by the number of ancient cave dwellings and paintings that have been found. Trondheim was an important viking town, called Kaupangen King Olav Tryggvason in 997 and then Nidaros. At one point, until 1217, it played a role as the capital of Norway.
For those visiting today, highlights of Trondheim include the Gamle Bybro (Old Bridge), Nidaros Cathedral and Archbishops Palace, the most important Gothic church in Norway. The Trondheim Museum of Arts contains the third largest art collection in Norway. The Sverresborg open air museum complex is also very popular and other museums of interest include the Trondheim Science Museum, Museum of Natural History and Archaeology, Trondheim Maritime Museum, The Ringve Museum and Jewish Museum (Trondheim).
