Cáceres is the capital of Cáceres Province in Extremadura, Spain. The city is only 100km from the border with Portugal and a popular destination. Settled in prehistoric times, Cáceres has been occupied by the Romans, Visigoths and Arabs during it's history. The Old Town, Ciudad Monumental, is still surrounded by ancient walls and well known for the large number of storks nests found within it. The city was declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1986 because of the city's blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance architecture.
Sights and attractions in Cáceres include the Casa de Las Cigüeñas, Casa de los Carvajal, Casa de los Golfines de Abajo, Casa de los Golfines de Arriba, Iglesia Concatedral de Santa María, Iglesia de San Mateo, Iglesia de Santiago, Palacio de Ovando, Palacio del Mayoralgo, Palacio Episcopal, and Torre de Bujaco. In addition, Caceres contains various important cathedrals and churches.
Ancient buildings with mixed architecture and sites of historical importance can be found scattered throughout Cáceres Province.

Caceres city is about 300km west of Madrid on the E-90, 200km south of Salamanca on E-803 and about 100km north of Badajoz (and the Portuguese border) on the EX-100.
