Cherry Brook - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Cherry Brook is one of the many brooks feeding the West Dart River, with the brook running from the north through Powdermills - the site of a disused gunpowder mill. Smith Hill is immediately to the north, Bellever is slightly to the east and obscured by the foreground. Typical of Dartmoor, there are many stone circles and ancient settlements within easy walking distance.

Water from Cherry Brook was, in the 1850's, used to power water mills at a the Plymouth and Dartmoor Gunpowder Company. The gunpowder was used locally for blasting at mines and clearing farmland. The remains of the powder factory lie alongside the B3212.
