Curia Julia and Colonna di Foca in the Roman Forum - Rome visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Curia Julia and Colonna di Foca in the Roman Forum' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Roma.

The Curia Julia was the third Curia (Senate House) to be built in the Roman Forum (Foro Magnum) in Ancient Rome. Building was started by Julius Caesar and completed by Augustus after his assassination. It is one of only a few ancient structures to remain intact in the Roman Forum, due to the fact that in the 7C it was converted into the Church of S. Adriano. The bronze doors are copies, the originals being removed by Borromini during restoration of San Giovanni in Laterano Church.

On the opposite side of the Via Sacra stands the Colonna di Foca in the Piazza del Foro (Forum Square) after which the area is now known. The Colona di Foca was the last monument erected in the Forum, placed here in 608AD to commemorate the gift of the Pantheon to the pope by the Byzantine Emperor Phoca.

Also prominent at this end of the via Sacra is the Arch of Septimius Severus and last remains of the Temple of Saturn. Further down the via Sacra you can see the Temple of Romulus and Temple of Antonino and Faustina (now called San Lorenzo in Miranda Church). On the far side of the Piazza del Foro are the remains of the Julia Basilica.
