The church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in Rome is a basilica church, found on the Tiber Island (Isola Tiberina). The site was formerly occupied by a temple to Aesculapius (Greek god of medicine) and the first church was built here in the 10C. The current building dates mostly from the 16C and 17C when it was reconstructed after flooding.
Inside San Bartolomeo all'Isola are fourteen ancient Roman columns and two lion supports that date from the earliest reconstruction of the basilica. Inside the church lie the relics of Bartholomew, contained in an ancient bath beneath the high altar.
