Vanua Levu is the second largest island of Fiji. The two principle towns on the island are Savusavu, on the southern edge, and Labasa on the northern coast. The main ports of entry to Vanua Levu are the port and airport at Savusavu.
Vanua Levu, and in particular areas around Savusavu, are becoming increasingly popular with visitors seeking something more than just a beach resort hotel environment. The island offers fantastic diving and swimming, including the world-famous Rainbow Reef. Savusavu is also an international destination for sailing, with the bay offering well serviced, protected anchorage.
While Vanua Levu has a few large, luxury holiday resorts, the island also has a range of secluded holiday cottages or even home-stays giving the traveller close contact with local ways of living. The rugged coastline is good for kayaking, and the unspoilt interior is full of tropical jungle with it's associated diverse wildlife. Eco-tourism is becoming increasingly popular on Vanua Levu.
