Labasa is built on the delta formed by the Wailevu, Labasa and Qawa rivers, giving the town easy access by boat to the Pacific Ocean. Labasa has a thriving fishing industry, with small boats leaving regularly on fishing expeditions that can last a few days. Some of the catch is sold at the fish market beside the banks of the river next to Labasa Market and the Labasa Bus Station. The stall holders are, it seems, the boat's captains and the variety of fish on sale here is quite amazing.
