Viti Levu is the largest island in Fiji measuring 106km north to south and 146km east to west, just a little smaller than in Hawaii. On the southwest of Viti Levu is Suva, the capital city of Fiji. On the eastern side is Nadi, which is the main international gateway to these Pacific Islands. 75% of the Fijian population live on this island.
Many of the most popular holiday resorts and beach hotels are found along the Coral Coast, a 70 kilometer stretch of highway between Waidroka Bay and Natadola Beach (part of the coastline between Nadi and Sigatoka). Among the larger resorts on the Coral Coast are the Outrigger and Shangri-La. Smaller, more intimate resorts include Bedarra Inn, The Beachhouse, Hideaway Resort, Vatulele and Beqa Lagoon Resort. Ironically, while the most popular area for tourists in Fiji, the beaches along the Coral Coast are not the best on the island. Many are lined with dead coral at low tide.
