Queen Victoria School - Further Information

Queen Victoria School (QVS) rests on a hillside overlooking Tailevu Point and Qoma Island in Matavatucou on the east coast of Viti Levu in Fiji, next to Lawaki village. The school was established in 1906 as a bording school for the sons of village chiefs in Central Fiji.

Queen Victoria School was originally based in Suva, but moved from there in 1942 making way for American forces during WWII. After 10 years in temporary facilities, the school finally moved to it's current site at Matavatucou, about 50 miles north of Suva. Today the school takes in students on the basis of ability rather than class, and is still one of the best schools in Fiji, with many students going on to play important roles in the development and government of the islands.

Travel Directions and Getting There:
Lawaki and Matavatucou are about 51km north of Nausori, and about 60km from [[3897,Suva]]. A bus runs from Suva through to this area. Much of the last 20 km is on dirt track.
