Carl Wark - FURTHER INFORMATION
Carl Wark - Peak District visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Carl Wark' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Derbyshire.
Carl Wark is an ancient hill fort in the Peak District in Derbyshire. The fort covers 9,000 square metres, built on a natural escarpment above Burbage Valley, fortified by turf banks lined with boulders. The fort lies below Higger Tor near to a Roman Road that runs through the area. It was thought that Carl Wark was an Iron Age hill fort, but recently it has been suggested that it was constructed around 500AD at the beginning of the Dark Ages as the Romans left Britain.
The area is popular with hill walkers, making a good hike from the Fox House Inn.
