Sant'Andrea al Quirinale church stands on Via del Quirinale and is a Jesuit church in Rome. The first church on the site was called 'Sant'Andrea in Monte Cavallo'. The current church was built between 1658-1661 and is considered to be one of the finest Baroque churches in Rome, built by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
On the outside Sant'Andrea al Quirinale follows a transverse oval design, similar to that of St Peter's. Inside, the church is eliptical with four side chapels and a large niche for the high altar. The dome of the church is decorated with stucco work by Antonio Raggi showing the ascent of Andrew into heaven. At the high altar a sculpture known as the 'St Andrew's Martyrdom', and the altarpiece, 'Crucifixion of St Andrew', was made by Borgnone in 1668.
Inside one of the side chapels is the 'Death of San Francesco Saverio' (1705) by Baciccio. Other chapels the 'Deposition', a 'Flagellation', and a 'Road to Calvary' (1682) by Giacinto Brandi. Carlo Emanuele IV, King of Sardinia and Piedmont is buried in one of the side chapels and St. Stanislaus Kostka is also enshrined within the church.
Sant'Andrea al Quirinale is next to the Giardino Quirinale. Other nearby churches include San Bernardo alle Terme, Santa Maria della Vittoria and Santa Susanna clustered around Piazza San Bernardo
