Quattro Fontane - Four Foutains - Further Information

The Quattro Fontane (Four Fountains) decorate the junction between via delle Quattro Fontane and via del Quirinale in Rome. As the name suggests, there are four fountains here, each on one corner of the junction at the highest point of the Quirinal Hill, the highest hill in Rome. The fountains were designed by Domenico Fontana for Pope Sixtus V and decorate the central point of a triangle formed by obelisks at Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza del Quirinale and Trinita' de Monti.

Today, via delle Quattro Fontane is well known for the Nuovo Hotel Quattro Fontane and the small church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane. Nearby to the east are Santa Susanna, Santa Maria della Vittoria and San Bernardo alle Terme. To the west is the Palazzo and Piazza del Quirinale and Sant Andrea al Quirinale Church.
