Santa Prisca Church - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama taken inside Santa Prisca church in Rome. Most notable about this church was the white walls adorned with frescoes of various saints at the tops of square columns. This church felt quite light compared to the other ostentatious Baroque churches in Rome.

The church of Santa Prisca is just south of the Circus Maximus (Circo Massimo) in Rome. It is named after Prisca, a 1st century martyr, and easily confused with the church of Santi Aquila and Priscilla. The church dates from 489 AD, built over an earlier Temple of Mithras (as is the Basilica di San Clemente near the Colosseum), and is mentioned in the Roman Synod of 499. Restoration works in 1660 embedded the columns in pilasters and built a new façade. Inside is an ancient baptistery that dates from the 13C. The remains of Prisca are contained within the crypt, which is decorated with 9th or 10th century frescoes showing scenes from her life and that of Peter the Apostle.
