Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawiharn (วัดเทวราชกุญชร วรวิหาร) in Bangkok was built during the Ayutthaya Period and was originally called Wat Samor Khraeng. It was turned into a 3rd class royal temple during the reign of King Rama IV and renamed after Krom Phra Phithak Thewet, son of King Rama II.
The Ubosot shown in this picture was built in the same style as Wat Phra Kaeo (the Grand Palace Temple) during the reign of King Rama III, in the early 19C. The Buddha is made of bronze, covered with gold, of the Dwawarawadi period. It is 9 feet wide and 11 feet high. It was named 'Phra Phuttha Thewarat Patimakorn' by King Rama IX on February 15, 2003.
Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawiharn stands on the northern side of the Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem near the Chao Phraya River entrance. It is close to Nana Market.
