Muggia is a coastal town in the northwest of Italy right on the border with Slovenia. It actually lies on the only part of the Istria Peninsula still within Italy. The town has about 7 miles of coastline and is surrounded by the Monti di Muggia (Mountains of Muggia) hills.
Tourist attractions within Muggia include the harbour, which has played a prominent part in the history of the town up to the end of WWII. The main focal point of the town is Piazza Marconi, the town square. On the square is the 13C church of Saints John and Paul which has unique trilobate spire (1410-1467) and a large Gothic rose window. Next to this is the town hall. On Mt. S.Michele in Muggia Vecchia is the 10C Basilica dell'Assunta with stunning panoramic views over the whole Bay of Trieste.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
