Fontana dell'Acqua Paola - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Panorama taken from the viewpoint by Fontana dell'Acqua Paola overlooking Rome. The fountain was being refurbished at the time this image was taken, and looks more like the front of a church than anything else.

The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola in Rome is often simply referred to as the 'Fontana Paola'. It dominates a bend near the top of Via Garibaldi overlooking Trastevere district on the eastern side of the Tiber River.
The facade of the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola looks like the front of a church, but was inspired by the ancient triumphal arches of Rome like the Arch of Septimius Severus and Arch of Titus down by the Roman Forum. The fountain was built in the 17th century for Pope Pail V to commemorate his renovation of the 1st century aqueduct built by Trajan which carried water to Rome from Bracciano lake. At the bottom of the hill is the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere.
The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola should not be confused with the smaller Fontana Paola in Piazza Trilussa, also built by Paul V.
