The Borghese Gallery (Galleria Borghese) is a popular tourist attraction in Rome. The gallery contains the bulk of the Borghese collection of paintings, sculpture and antiquities that was started by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V. The Villa Borghese Pinciana in which the gallery is housed used to be considered integral to the Villa Borghese gardens in which it stands, which at the time was on the outskirts of Rome.
The Borghese Collection is displayed in 20 rooms over two floors within the gallery. One floor is mostly devoted to works from the 1st-3rd centuries AD. The gallery also contains numerous sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and a collection of ancient instruments from around the world, known as the National Museum of Musical Instruments.
