The Museo Pietro Canonica stands close to the Galleria Borghese in Via Borghese in Rome. This museum is dedicated to the works of Pietro Canonica (1869 -1959). As well as being an internationally renowned sculptor, Pietro Canonica was also a painter, opera composer, professor of arts and senator for life. He entered the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino collage of art at the age of 11, establishing himself in Turin and moving to Rome in 1922.
In 1927 Canonica gained municipal concession to use the building as his home and studio on the condition that he dedicated the works collected here to the city after his death. This formed the bases of the museum, which is now one of the museums and galleries within Villa Borghese. As well as various works of art, the museum shows aspects of Canonica's life and place of work.
