The Giardino del Lago (Lake Garden) in Villa Borghese park is one of the few English style gardens in Rome. It is near to the Galleria Nazionale d'Art Moderna and Museo Nazionale di Villa Giulia. The garden was created at the end of the 18C when Marcantonio IV Borghese wanted to transform the holm oak area of the park. One of the people involved in planning the garden was Jacob More, an English landscape gardener.
The designers incorporated a natural looking lake and built the Tempio di Esculapio (Temple of Aesculapius) near the middle. The temple is decorated with ancient sculptures restored by Vincenzo Pacetti. It was built in 1786 by Antonio and Mario Asprucci.
Together the gardens and temple have become one of the tourist attractions of Rome.
