The Teatro dell'Opera is more fully known as the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma (Rome Opera House). It first opened in 1880 when it was known as the 'Costanzi Theatre and seated 2,212 people. Between 1926-46 it was known as the 'Teatro Reale dell'Opera' (The Royal Opera House). It was renamed Teatro dell'Opera in 1946 and currently seats 1,600.

The Teatro dell'Opera also holds part of its programme in the Teatro Nazionale and the Terme di Caracalla`
