Menorca can be reached by ferries from either Alcudia or Palma on Mallorca. These arrive at Ciutadella or Mahon respectively on Menorca. From mainland Spain ferries come either from Barcelona or Valencia. The Barcelona ferry arrives at either Mahon or Ciutadella , the Velencia ferry only services Mahon.
The ferry companies that service these routes are Balearia Lines, Iscomar, Trasmediterranea, Turbocat.
Once at either of these ports of entry, which are at either end of Menorca, it is best to hire a car to continue exploring the island. Some of the international car hire companies are based at the ports, but it is often cheaper, though a little more hassle, to hire a car from inside the towns. Car hire companies based at either the airport of ferry ports tend to be the most expensive on the island. There are no direct links between Menorca and either Ibiza or Formentura.
