Wengiboden is the main street in Wengen, one of the most popular skiing destinations the Jungfrau region of Switzerland. The road leads up from Wengen Station and is lined with numerous hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Near to the station is Wengen Tourist Information Centre, whose green sign and building can be seen across the street in this image.
One of the larger ski shops in the village is Intersport, also shown in this picture, which has outlets throughout the region offering ski and snow board hire as well as selling a wide range of ski equipment and clothing.
Wengen is popular for several reasons. The village is car free, it is set in stunning mountain scenery and has easy access to the Keine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski areas via either mountain train to Keine Scheidegg Station or Cable Car to the top of Männlichen. In the evening the village has an active night life. During peak periods the population rises to 10,000, especially during the World Cup Downhill races which descend down the longest course on earth from near the top of Lauberhorn to Innerwengen.
See our Jungfrau Ski page for more information about the Wengen and the wider skiing area as well as an interactive piste map showing the lifts and runs with various panoramas.
